瑪格麗特 · 博洛夫斯基（Margaret Borowski），常被稱作「梅」（Mae），是《林中之夜》的主人公，也是玩家可操控的第一個角色。
外貌
梅是一隻有着深藍毛色的貓，而她頭上的毛自從被染成紅色之後就一直在褪色，現在只剩下一些暗紅的痕跡。
她不喜歡自己的紅眼睛，並稱它們為「夢魘之目」。
她的右耳因為狗的襲擊而留下了兩個缺口。靜置時，梅會時不時抖動這隻耳朵。
她穿着橙色襯衣，兩邊的長袖是紅色的，正面是一個被斜槓貫穿的 0 的標誌。
她的下裝則是深色工裝褲和一雙「廉價的盜版綠色馬丁大夫鞋」。[1]
她比負鼠泉的其他居民都要稍稍矮一些；同時她總覺得自己超重了。
不過梅非常同意她爺爺的評價，她這只是「健壯」而已。然而梅依然擔心自己的穿着會顯露她圓滾滾的身材。
性格
梅的童年和青春期並不怎麼一帆風順，抑鬱情緒和憤怒問題常常困擾着她。漢克醫生曾引導她去克服這些情緒。
直到後來，這些混亂情緒的根源才最終揭曉——它們只是精神分裂的副產物。她很刻薄，對周圍人毫無尊重，對自己也百般挖苦，稱自己是混蛋。
但隨着遊戲深入，梅的同情心也逐漸顯露。她會安慰朋友；她會偷餅乾餵給自己發現的一窩小老鼠。她愛自己的朋友們，且並不畏懼去表達這種情感。
梅非常懷舊。離開家鄉上大學時，她常常回憶起負鼠泉的模樣。輟學回家後，她也經常念叨起家鄉數不清的變化。
梅精力旺盛，動作敏捷。只要她想，她就能爬到所有建築的頂部去。
她的朋友、家人和警察（通常是她的阿姨）都知道她愛好四處跑跑跳跳，爬到電線杆上，像走鋼絲一樣踩在電線上行走等等。
梅是泛性戀；當問及理想對象時，她會回答「女的或男的」，她只會具體描述她所期望對方所擁有的人格特質。
遊戲製作者後來聲明梅並不一定認識「泛性戀」這個詞。不過如果她知道的話，她很可能會用這個詞來描述自己。[2]
背景
梅出生在 1996 或 1997 年，在 2017 年時她 20 歲。她是坎蒂和斯坦·博洛夫斯基的獨女，他們家已經在負鼠泉的礦井裡工作了數個世代。
礦井關閉後，他們兩人努力工作存錢，好讓梅可以成為第一個進入大學的博洛夫斯基。但梅只上了三個學期就回家，住進了父母的閣樓里。
梅似乎一直是個問題少女：她有些精神分裂、抑鬱、毫無目標，且最近她認為自己與鎮裡的某種超自然現象有着聯繫。
高中時期，她的分裂症狀引發了一次事故，從此她在鎮上惡名昭彰。
她不知道該如何處理自己的情感，但一次偶然的機會讓她發現鎮上發生了詭異的事情，線索均指向樹林中；這件事或許與她回家後頻繁的詭異夢境有關。
在《失落星座》中，小時候的梅在問爺爺關於搶劫銀行的事情，聊着聊着他們提起了監獄，隨後梅問爺爺能不能講個鬼故事。
《失落星座》的主線，即爺爺講的鬼故事從此開始；途中會有小梅時不時打斷故事，詢問特定情節的問題。
人際關係
對象
梅在高中時有個男友柯爾，但兩人早已分手了。
墓地里，三個奇怪少年中坐在較矮一層的 Britt 問碧婭和梅，關於她們的理想對象。梅用「他們」（they）來指代對象，且聲稱自己並不介意對方是女是男還是自認為的其他性別。
格雷格和梅抱怨他和安格斯是鎮上唯二的酷兒（Queer）時，梅反駁說她也是啊，進一步確認了梅其實也是 LGBT+ 的一員。
而在製作者 Scott Benson 的 Curious Cat 提問箱中，他也已經確認了梅是泛性戀。[2]
好友
格雷格是梅在高中時期關係最親密的朋友。這兩人的麻煩製造組合在鎮裡名氣很響，經常結伴去做一些被他們暗地裡承認為「罪行」的事情。
高中之後，格雷格變得稍微穩重一些了，但在梅回家後，兩人又重操舊業。遊戲中，安格斯非常不滿地指出了這一點。
碧婭是梅在 7 年級及之前的時間裡關係最親密的朋友，但兩人之後便分道揚鑣了。
兩人都做過童子軍。7 年級之後她們就不再一起玩了，雖然兩人各自的理由都不甚相同。梅認為其中的原因是她們「在 12 歲時鬧翻了」。
而碧婭只是覺得梅認為碧婭不夠酷，不配出現在她身邊。碧婭說突然之間，梅不再和她坐一起吃午飯，也不再回她的電話，每次都只和格雷格出去而不是她。
遊戲開頭，梅輟學回家，而碧婭顯得有些怨恨她。碧婭因為家庭情況而無法繼續接受教育，而梅卻硬生生地浪費了完成大學學業的機會。
結尾，兩人各自彌補了過往的種種缺憾，重新修復了關係。
起初梅並不認識安格斯。兩人結識是因為安格斯是格雷格的男友。
遊戲中，安格斯與梅逐漸熟悉起來，安格斯甚至願意將自己非常私人的童年細節分享給梅。同時他也和格雷格、碧婭、梅在同一個樂隊裡。
如果玩家經常選擇和榛一起出去逛，梅也會和榛成為親密的好友。
榛似乎能夠理解梅和她所處的困境。梅雖然不太懂榛或他的家庭，但她依然和榛合得來，並逐漸發現他其實既特殊也很有趣。
如果梅和榛足夠熟，最後榛會邀請梅到家裡做客，這可是連格雷格都做不到的事情。
梅的好友之一。在梅回家之前，他就失蹤了。在梅和其他朋友調查時，發現他的失蹤與鎮裡的邪教有關。
凱西曾是樂隊裡的鼓手，後來這個位置給了碧婭。他會和格雷格與梅一起去「犯罪」。
梅的鄰居兼朋友之一。塞默斯喜歡將自己關於詩歌的想法分享給梅。如果梅很樂意聆聽她的詩，她會相信自己能夠成為更好的詩人。
梅並不喜歡學校，但她覺得自己很享受查佐科夫先生的星座課。回家之後，查佐科夫先生會邀請梅，每隔兩天一起在屋頂上欣賞星星。
如果梅經常去和洛利一起呆在屋頂上的話，洛利也會逐漸和她熟絡起來。洛利偶爾會邀請梅一起到鐵路邊躺着；梅會稍微安撫一下她缺乏自我認同的內心。
親人
梅善良體貼的老媽。在梅離開家鄉去上學之後，她依然和女兒維持着良好的關係。
但關於梅意外輟學的事情，她和梅還是吵了一架。看來梅的父母將必須成功的期望與壓力全部放在了梅的身上。
梅友好而健忘的老爸。他忘記了梅回家的確切日期，因而沒能去車站接她回家。最後他和梅同意假裝這件事沒發生過，而他準時去接了梅回來。
梅給姨媽起了綽號叫「Aunt Mall Cop」。茉莉雖然只是個不起眼的小鎮警察，但她非常專業嚴謹。
遊戲中，茉莉在廢棄操場上首次遇到了梅，威脅說要逮捕她，隨後將她送回了家。平心而論，茉莉對梅依然是很友善的，只不過因為她一直不相信梅的說辭，梅感到有些不快。
梅和爺爺的關係非常親密。小時候，爺爺經常給梅講鬼故事來催眠。爺爺去世後，梅通過他留下的一整箱恐怖故事來懷念他。

- 念白結束後，玩家作為梅出現在了車站裡。往左走可以看到一台電視，它會自動播放「嘉寶和馬洛伊」（Garbo and Malloy）的節目。
- 最左邊是修理工，他會問你要一罐飛揚可樂（Fiascola）。梅必須要從右側的自動售賣機裡拿到可樂才能推動遊戲進展。「這可是免費可樂」，梅說着，把飲料遞給修理工。隨後他會放你出去。
- 梅以為父母會來接她，但現在她不得不獨自穿過樹林走回去。她必須爬過一段廢棄的原木。其中一條原木會在梅反覆跳躍的時候斷裂開來，其他木頭也紛紛掉落下來，這反而方便梅爬過去。
- 接下來梅會來到廢棄的鋸木廠公園，裡面有一條廢棄的船；在船上連跳三下就可以跳上旁邊的電線。走到左邊時，梅會摔下來，並正好被茉莉姨媽抓到。姨媽讓梅坐進車裡，梅表示拒絕，隨後她問「你想在監獄裡度過第一晚嗎？」，梅也表示拒絕。
- 回家後，斯坦正坐在沙發上，梅會走過去和他對話。梅以為他會去車站接她，而老爸說他以為梅明天才會回來。老爸還問梅有沒有向茉莉姨媽問好，而梅只是說「警察滾蛋好吧！」。在梅說自己要睡覺之後，第一篇日記會自動記錄下來。選擇回房間睡覺之後，第 1 天就這樣結束了。

Wow. I didn't realize how much I missed the sound of that train. I used to hear it in my bed at night during the winter when the leaves were down.
Well, I guess I'm gonna hike through the woods. Though the woods is home, my bed, and my negligent parents.
